Hometown: Greenwood Christian Rounding Up Basketball Team for Fundraising Game With Harlem Ambassadors

Spectators can expect to see 50 high-flying slam dunks like this one during the upcoming Harlem Ambassadors game to benefit Greenwood Christian Academy.

The Harlem Ambassadors will be headed to Williamsburg to play a fundraising game for Greenwood Christian Academy in March, and Greenwood is looking to put together a community team to play the visiting Ambassadors.

The Harlem Ambassadors offer a unique brand of Harlem-style basketball, featuring high-flying slam dunks, dazzling ball-handling tricks and comedy routines. They set themselves apart from other Harlem-style teams by working with local nonprofit and service organizations and holding Harlem Ambassadors shows as community fundraising events. The local event will raise money to provide scholarships and tuition assistance to local students, obtain technology funding and upgrade classroom technology.

“It feels good to be able to provide quality entertainment and create memories that the fans will take with them,” said Ambassadors President Dale Moss. “We’re able to give even more when we can help provide funding for a Habitat for Humanity house or new computers for the school library, and that feels great.”

Greenwood is looking for community members over the age of 19 to play against the Ambassadors in a team that will be called the Sartell Slamdunkers. Each player is asked to find sponsorships of $250.00 to play. The player can be sponsored by family, friends, businesses, or a combination of these. The community team members will get to play the Ambassadors, and also have dinner and one-on-one time with the team. Players and event volunteers are the only people invited to the dinner.

Deadline for player registration is January 24, but space is limited. If you are interested in playing, contact Brandie Weiler, Game Organizer for Greenwood Christian Academy, at [email protected].

The game will be played at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, at Lafayette High School.

The Harlem Ambassadors have worked extensively with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Boys & Girls Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters and American Red Cross as well as Rotary, Lions and Kiwanis clubs in communities throughout the U.S., and they perform more than 200 shows a year. Those shows have helped raise millions of dollars for these groups.
