Hometown: Local Groups Involved in Holiday Giving

Several businesses and organizations are getting in the holiday giving spirit and collecting donations for various nonprofits.

This week, the following groups share their holiday giving news: The Kiwanis Club of Poquoson; Port Anne, New Town Dental Arts and Macaroni Kid; and the Williamsburg Landing community.

On Tuesday at their weekly breakfast, The Kiwanis Club of Poquoson presented a “Truck Load of Toys” to the Poquoson Empty Stocking Fund. This is the 12th year Kiwanis has participated in this worthwhile program, spearheaded by Frank and Madonna Kreiger of Poquoson.

The Port Anne community generously donated lots of new toys, games and tricycles to Toys for Tots. Port Anne partnered with New Town Dental Arts and Macaroni Kid in their collection drive.

The Williamsburg Landing community adopted the Food4Kids Backpack Program as its Holiday Food Drive this year.

Food4Kids is part of the Erase the Need program sponsored by WJCC Schools’ Title I Office. The WJCC Schools’ Title I Office is working with Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center and the Peninsula Food Bank to provide students in need a backpack full of healthy food and snacks to carry home every week.

Residents and employees from the Landing contributed food supplies as well as monetary donations.
