York County Issues Holiday Safety Reminders
York County has an important message for anyone planning on frying a turkey for Thanksgiving: Be careful.
Make sure to use fryers outside at a safe distance from buildings or any combustible materials. Never let children or pets come near, and be absolutely sure that the turkey is thawed as water causes oil to spill over the sides of the fryer, which can cause a fire or even an explosion.
The National Turkey Federation recommends leaving the turkey in the refrigerator for approximately 24 hours for every five pounds of weight.
As always, in case of a fire, make sure you’re at a safe distance and be sure to call 911 immediately.
