The Williamsburg Community Health Foundation (WCHF) honored several members of the healthcare community at its annual Healthcare Heroes event this week.
WCHF Board members presented the Dr. Baxter I. Bell, Sr. Award for Outstanding Employee to Tammy Underwood for her work at the School Health Initiative Program (SHIP) at WJCC Schools. SHIP received a $2,000 grant from WHCF to honor Underwood’s work.
Underwood, a Wellness Integration Specialist with Williamsburg-James City County Schools, was recognized for her accomplishments in integrating movement with classroom learning in WJCC elementary schools. Underwood worked on writing nearly 600 SOL-friendly WIP lesson plans, organizing many health-related school projects, and consulting with other school districts in incorporating movement with traditional learning.
Also at the Healthcare Heroes event, the Vernon M. Geddy, Jr., Award for Outstanding Leadership went to Anne Conner at Towne Bank and Marshall Warner at Chesapeake bank.
The Reverend Thomas Pugh Award for Outstanding Community Health Program was awarded to the Greater Williamsburg Medication Access Program (GWMAP).
