WILLIAMSBURG— William & Mary men’s gymnast Luke Tully made history during the finals at the NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Illinois on Saturday evening, as he became the first student-athlete in program history to earn NCAA All-America honors in all-around.
Tully placed sixth at the national championship meet with a 76.598. In addition to becoming W&M’s first NCAA All-American in all-around, he becomes the ninth gymnast in program history to garner NCAA All-America distinction.
He joins an elite group of former Tribe NCAA All-Americans that includes: Tom Serena, Sebronzik Wright, Scott McCall, Ramon Jackson, Landon Funiciello, Neal Courter, Jacopo Gliozzi and Andrew Lyubovsky.
The Lebanon, Tenn., native also nearly earned a top-eight finish on high bar, as he placed ninth with a 13.566 and just missed out on earning an additional All-America accolade.
Tully entered the Championships as one of the nation’s top performers this season, as he recently garnered regular season All-America honors in all-around by the College Gymnastics Association (CGA).
The performance punctuated an outstanding series of postseason performances for Tully, as he earned USA Gymnastics Collegiate All-America honors in all-around and garnered All-ECAC distinction in all-around, floor, vault and high bar.
In addition to Tully, Nicholas Kosarikov competed during the NCAA Championships Finals and placed 26th on parallel bars with a 12.933.
Tully and Kosarikov highlighted an impressive group of eight W&M standouts who competed as individuals at the national championship meet.
