Virginia Sports Hall of Fame Names New Executive Director

VIRGINIA BEACH — The Virginia Sports Hall Fame has named longtime WAVY-TV Sports Director and 2020 Inductee Bruce Rader as its new Executive Director. 

Rader is the Vice President of Special Projects for the national production company Studio Center headquartered in Virginia Beach. 

“The Board of Directors is extremely happy to announce the appointment of Bruce Rader as the new Executive Director of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame,” said President Marty Miller. “The Board believes that Bruce is the right individual to continue the excellent work of the former Executive Director, Will Driscoll, and elevate it to even greater heights. The VSHOF is entering a new era. With his past experiences, we believe that Bruce will open some new doors, enhance the visibility of our mission, and strengthen the financial viability of this great organization”.

Rader’s accolades include the George A. Bowles Jr. Broadcast Journalism Award from the Virginia Association of Broadcasters, the Abe Goldblatt Memorial Award from the Norfolk Sports Club and the Tidewater Humanitarian Award from the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities. Before his induction into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, Rader was also inducted into the CIAA Hall of Fame, the Hampton Roads Sports Hall of Fame and the Hampton Roads Sports Media Hall of Fame. 

“I am humbled and honored that the board has entrusted me to lead this great organization,” said Rader. “Along with longtime Director of Administration Salima Ramos, and our 363 athletes, coaches, media members, and contributors already inducted into the hall since its first class in 1972, we will continue to preserve the legacy of our great Virginia Sports History, support education and community engagement and inspire future generations.”
