Several former William & Mary baseball players are currently playing professionally in the Major and Minor Leagues. TribeAthletics.com gave an update on the Green & Gold’s diamond alums in the pros as of June 4.
BEN WILLIAMSON
Team: Seattle Mariners
At W&M: 2020-23
Williamson has played in 41 games with Seattle since getting called up on April 13. He has racked up 36 hits, 13 RBI, and one home run after going yard in his fifth career game. The 2023 CAA Player of the Year and three-time first team all-conference standout with the Tribe, Williamson solidified a full-time starting role thanks largely to his defense: according to FanGraphs, Williamson has three defensive runs saved, which ranks fifth among all qualified MLB third basemen despite having the second-fewest innings played.
CORY WALL
Team: Rome Emperors (High-A)
Affiliate: Atlanta Braves
At W&M: 2020-23
Wall has been lights out as a reliever for the Braves’ High-A affiliate in Rome, posting a 0.87 ERA in 14 appearances with a 4-1 record. Wall has tallied 21 strikeouts to six walks and is holding opponents to a .132 batting average. A native of Roaring Brook, Pa., Wall played at W&M as a graduate student in 2023 where he tallied a 3.98 ERA and a 63-to-11 strikeout-to-walk ratio with a pair of saves.
JOE DELOSSANTOS
Team: Tampa Tarpons (Single-A)
Affiliate: New York Yankees
At W&M: 2020-24
Delossantos is in his second year of pro ball with the Single-A Tampa Tarpons. He has yet to appear in a game this season as he works back from an injury. Last year, he hit .286 with eight RBI in 21 games for the Tarpons. A 10th-round draft pick by the New York Yankees, he earned All-CAA Second Team honors in 2024 after hitting .330 with 14 homers and 67 RBI. The Creedmoor, N.C. product played five years with the Tribe from 2020-24 and ranks top-10 all-time in home runs, RBI, and stolen bases.
TRAVIS GARNETT
Team: ACL D-backs (Rookie)
Affiliate: Arizona Diamondbacks
At W&M: 2024
Garnett has appeared in four games in the Diamondbacks organization between Single-A Visalia and the Rookie League ACL D-Backs. Garnett was taken by Arizona in the eighth round of the 2024 MLB Draft following a redshirt sophomore campaign at W&M that saw him go 5-0 with a 4.61 ERA as a reliever.
NATE KNOWLES
Team: FCL Rays (Rookie)
Affiliate: Tampa Bay Rays
At W&M: 2022-24
Knowles is stationed with the FCL Rays in Port Charlotte, Fla. and has pitched in three games, making two starts. Knowles played three seasons with the Tribe from 2022-24 and put together a historic junior campaign. The Arlington, Va. native went 8-3 with a 2.48 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 80.0 innings en route to being named the 2024 CAA Pitcher of the Year and a third team All-American by ABCA/Rawlings and NCBWA. He was the first All-American pitcher in program history and the fifth-highest pick in school history, having been taken by the Rays in the fourth round at No. 124 overall last summer.
MATT MCDERMOTT
Team: Dorados de Chihuahua
Affiliate: Independent (Mexican League)
At W&M: 2018-21
McDermott is currently playing for the Dorados de Chihuahua (Chihuahua Goldens) in the independent Mexican League, where he is batting .315 with 19 RBI and an .815 OPS in 39 games. A four-year starter in Williamsburg from 2018-21, McDermott was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year and a Second Team All-CAA selection as a senior in 2021.
