NEWPORT NEWS — Lionsbridge FC remained unbeaten at home and extended its strong start to the season with a 3-0 win over Greenville United on Saturday night at TowneBank Stadium.
Goalkeeper Henry Hampshaw made a game-changing penalty save in the 39th minute, denying AB Mbaye to keep the match scoreless. Just five minutes later, Lionsbridge flipped the momentum when Marcelo Lopes won a penalty and Sam Hall converted from the spot to give the hosts a 1-0 lead before halftime.
Lionsbridge doubled its advantage early in the second half, as Gabriel Rodriguez set up Christian Hatley for a tap-in finish in the 49th minute. Lincoln Ulrich capped the night in the 88th minute, heading home a cross from Luc Acherman to seal the 3-0 victory.
Lionsbridge outshot Greenville 19-5 and improved to 3-0-1 on the season. The club has yet to concede a goal at home this season.
Next up, the team travels to Christos FC for a Chesapeake Division match before returning to host Northern Virginia FC on Saturday, May 31.
