NEWPORT NEWS — Christopher Newport University will play UC Santa Cruz on Friday as the 2025 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament gets underway in Salisbury, Md. The Captains, 21-4 and riding a seven-game winning streak, will be the top seed in the four-team tourney, and will play the Banana Slugs at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Maggs Center on the Salisbury University campus. Host school Salisbury will play the University of Mary Washington in the other semi-final on Friday at 4:30 p.m., with the winners meeting Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. for the league title.
The Captains completed the regular season on Saturday with a 72-58 victory at Mary Washington. Fifth-year senior All-American Jahn Hines was named the C2C’s Player of the Week on Monday for the fifth straight week, and the eighth time this season after scoring 32 points and pulling down eight rebounds in the regular season finale. Hines scored 18 points in the opening half, and added 14 after the intermission to register his fourth game of the season over the 30-point mark. Hines moved into second place on CNU’s all-time scoring list behind only Lamont Strothers, another three-time All-American, who scored 2,709 career points from 1987-1991. Hines is now just 14 points from reaching 2,000 for his career, and the weekly honor is the 21st of his career.
Christopher Newport Head Coach John Krikorian also reached a new milestone on Saturday in Fredericksburg, Va. The 14-point victory over the Eagles marked Krikorian’s 400th career victory as a head coach. Krikorian now has a record of 335-76 (.815) in 14 seasons leading the Captains, and overall is now 400-118 (.772) including four years guiding the program at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
The Captains will be looking for their fourth straight C2C title since the formation of the conference, and CNU has won all three prior titles over Mary Washington. Tickets are available for advance purchase by clicking HERE.
