NEWPORT NEWS — Following a matchup between two teams in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference, Christopher Newport freshman Sarah Pritz has been named the conference Player of the Week after leading nationally-ranked CNU to a win over Salisbury University this week. In the team’s only action during the week, Pritz scored a team-high 13 points and paired them with eight rebounds to help lift CNU to a 92-57 win at home.

The victory was the tenth straight for CNU Women’s Basketball and continued a perfect home record in 2024-25 at 8-0. The Captains extended a home regular season winning streak to 52 consecutive victories with the win over Salisbury last week.

Against the Sea Gulls, Pritz knocked down six of her eleven attempts from the field to finish the game with her second straight double-digit scoring performance. It marked the third time this season that the freshman has connected on six attempts after scoring a season-high 16 points at Moravian and adding 15 points against Warren Wilson. Her 13 points against Salisbury improved her season scoring average to 5.4 points per game in her first year.

A force on the glass on Saturday, Pritz hauled in a game-high eight rebounds including a career-best six on the offensive end. Following four of those six offensive rebounds, the Captains converted for 10 points including three-pointers by Gabbi San Diego and Katerina Dakos. She added her own stickback layup once and picked up an assist when she kicked out to Mia Wilson for a jumper on another.

She added two steals, one blocked shot, and a pair of assists while playing 20 minutes in the game ahead of her recognition. She becomes the third CNU player this season to be honored as the C2C Player of the Week after Camille Malagar and Hannah Orloff (x3).

Christopher Newport will return to action on Wednesday, January 22 as the Freeman Center welcomes Virginia Wesleyan University. Tip against the Marlins is slated for 6:00 p.m.
