Balanced Attack, Strong Offensive Effort Leads W&M to Home Win

WILLIAMSBURG — All 14 Tribe players scored, including five in double figures, as William & Mary rolled to a 109-55 win over Virginia University Lynchburg on Wednesday night at Kaplan Arena.

The Tribe’s posted a quartet of offensive numbers inside the top-10 on the program’s single-game lists as head coach Brian Earl picked up career win #100 with his fourth victory at W&M.

Senior Gabe Dorsey led five Tribe players in double figures with 17 points on 6-of-6 shooting, including all five of his 3-pointers, in an efficient five minutes of action. He is just the fourth player on the fifth occasion in school history to make five 3-pointers without a miss in a game.

Junior Finn Lally and senior Matteus Case tallied 12 points apiece, while freshman Luke Kinkade scored a career-high 11 points and junior Chase Lowe added 10 points. Lally just missed a double-double with nine rebounds and four blocked shots, and Case was 5-of-8 shooting, including 2-of-3 from 3. Kinkade knocked down 3-of-5 from distance.

The Tribe’s 109 points was the 10th-highest total in school history. W&M knocked down 18 3-pointers, which ranks third in school history, and the Green and Gold dished out the second-most assists in school history with 31. The Tribe’s 42 made field goals was the six-highest total in program annals.

Junior Miles Hicks led the attack on the glass with a career-high 10 rebounds as W&M outrebounded the Dragons, 50-24. He also just missed a double-double with eight points and three assists. Freshman Isaiah Mbeng and graduate student Keller Boothby led W&M in assists with a career-high five each.

The Tribe (4-6) hit six of its first eight shots from the floor in scoring 15 of the game’s first 17 points and never looked back. Dorsey scored eight-straight points during the run, before Case and senior Noah Collier capped the run with back-to-back lay-ups.

W&M’s lead reached 20 for the first time on back-to-back Dorsey 3-pointers. The second of the sequence at the 10:54 mark pushed the lead to 31-9.

A 13-0 Tribe run in the latter stages of the first half pushed the lead to 58-20 with just 44 seconds left in the frame. Case, Kinkade and freshman Ryan Jackson, Jr. hit consecutive 3-pointers to end the run.

The Green and Gold lead reached its largest at 57 just six minutes into the second half. Seven different players scored during the run, including a dunk from Jackson, Jr. to extend the margin to 85-28.

The Tribe shot 56.8% (42-of-74) from the field, including a 47.4% clip (18-of-38) from 3-point range.

Le’nijel Robinson led the way for VUL with 32 points on 13-of-25, including 5-of-9 from 3. He added six rebounds and five steals. The Dragons finished the night shooting 33.3% (21-of-63) from the field, including 22.7% (5-of-22) from 3-point range.

The Tribe will have a two-week break for final exams at the university and return to action when it hosts rival Richmond on Wednesday, Dec. 18. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m and the game will be broadcast on FloCollege.
