WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Hornets announced its 8U Youth Football team has advanced to the playoffs.
The roster of 17, all aged 9 and under, features 11 players who are experiencing their first season of youth football. The team compiled an 8-2 record and heads into a playoff matchup Saturday against the Tri-Citi Hurricanes Orange at the Luter Sports Complex in Smithfield.
“I’m so proud of the boys and the season they’ve had. We have 11 first-year tackle kids on a roster of 17, they’ve made phenomenal strides and are all making an impact on the field. This team has really come together as a cohesive group, I’m excited to see what we can do in the playoffs,” said Hornets 8U head coach Mike Sandberg.
This season marks the organization’s 32nd year of participation in the Peninsula Youth Football and Cheerleading Organization (PYFCO).
The game is slated for 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 9 in Smithfield. For more information on the Hornets, visit williamsburghornets.com.
