
RICHMOND — William & Mary senior Gabe Dorsey and junior Chase Lowe earned Preseason All-CAA honors, the league announced at its annual Media Day on Friday.
Dorsey, who was an honorable mention choice last season, became the first Tribe player to be name to the Preseason All-CAA First Team since Nathan Knight in 2019. Lowe was one of nine players in the league to earn a spot on the honorable mention list this season. W&M was one of six teams in the league to have multiple preseason all-league picks.
Along with the preseason all-league teams, the CAA coaches voted on the preseason predicted order of finish. W&M was seventh in the preseason poll with 91 votes. Towson was the preseason favorite to win the league with 166 points and 10 first-place votes followed by Charleston (157 points, 3 first-place votes) and UNCW (143 points, 1 first-place vote). Hofstra (122 points) was fourth with Delaware (102) coming in fifth and Northeastern (96) in sixth. Monmouth (87), Stony Brook (80), N.C. A&T (67), Drexel (66), Elon (46), Campbell (27) and Hampton (24) rounded out the preseason poll.
Joining Dorsey on the Preseason All-CAA First Team were preseason player of the year Ante Brzovic of Charleston as well as N.C. A&T’s Landon Glasper, Hampton’s Kyrese Mullen, and Towson’s Tyler Tejada.
Dorsey, who was the only Tribe player to start all 33 games a season ago, led the team and ranked 11th in the CAA in scoring in 2023-24. His 14 points per game average is the third-best among returning league players. Dorsey has established himself as one of the top 3-point shooters in the country. Last season, he set school records for 3-pointers (113) and 3’s made per game (3.42). Those numbers ranked fourth and sixth, respectively, in the country. In 2022-23, he was fourth nationally in 3FG% (44.4) and 18th in 3’s made per game (3.04).
Lowe was one of only 16 players in the country to average 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists per game in 2023-24. He ranked seventh in the CAA in rebounding (7.3), 10th in assists (3.2), and 18th in scoring (12.5) a season ago. In the Tribe’s CAA Tournament opening round win over N.C. A&T, he produced the first game in W&M history with player producing a stat line of 18 points, 16 rebounds and six assists.
Brian Earl, who led Cornell to 22 wins and its first NIT appearance in 2023-24, was named the 32nd head coach in W&M history on March 23, 2024. The Tribe returns three starters from 2023-24 in Dorsey, Lowe and senior Caleb Dorsey. W&M also added nine new players for the 2024-25 season, including five transfers – Keller Boothby (Cornell), Kyle Frazier (Belmont Abbey), Finn Lally (Trinidad State), Malachi Ndur (Brown), and Kyle Pulliam (St. Thomas Aquinas).
The Green and Gold tips off its 120th season at home against Dickinson College on Monday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FloCollege and available over the airwaves on the official home of W&M Basketball, The Tide 92.3 FM.
