William & Mary Announces Leadership Change in Women’s Lacrosse

WILLIAMSBURG — William & Mary Athletics announced today that Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach Colleen Dawson‘s contract will not be renewed.  She has been the head coach for the past five years.

“We thank Coach Dawson for all that she has done at William & Mary,” said Director of Athletics Brian D. Mann.  “We appreciate her commitment to her student-athletes and to Tribe lacrosse, and we wish her the very best in the future.”

Over her five seasons, the Tribe posted a 21-47 overall record, including a 3-22 mark in the CAA. Her first season in 2020 was shortened due to COVID-19.  Dawson led the Tribe to an 8-8 record in 2023 and during that campaign, W&M posted its most wins and most league victories in 12 years.

During her tenure, five players garnered all-conference honors and six players were named to the CAA’s All-Rookie team.  In her first two seasons, the entire roster earned the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award and the squad garnered 94 W&M Provost Awards over her five seasons.

Dawson won a national title as a student-athlete at the University of Maryland and was an assistant at Saint Joseph’s University for five seasons.

The search for William & Mary’s next head coach will begin immediately.
