WILLIAMSBURG — No. 74-ranked William & Mary men’s tennis got back on the winning track with a 6-1 victory over Navy on Saturday afternoon.
The Tribe (6-6) captured the doubles point, before receiving straight-set singles wins from Alexandre Leblanc (No. 1), Konstantinos Raptis (No. 3), Oliver Hague (No. 4), Albert Hansen (No. 5) and Bill Duo (No. 6) to top the Midshipmen (16-9).
How it Happened
- Graduate student Satchel Benn and Hague gave W&M the early lead in doubles with a 6-3 win over Aniketh Ayinala and J.J. Etterbeek at No. 2. It marked the Tribe pair’s fifth-straight win as they improved to 10-5 overall and 6-4 on line two.
- The doubles point came down to a pair of tiebreaker matches at No. 1 and No. 3. Leblanc and junior Alexander Karman clinched the point by outlasting Tommy Kim and Jake Young in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3), on line three. It was Leblanc and Karman’s first win as a duo this season.
- In singles, Hague and Raptis dropped just five and six games, respectively, in recording straight-set wins. Hague dispatched of Ayinala, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 for his team-leading 16th win of the year. Raptis remained undefeated at No. 3 (6-0), bouncing Etterbeek, 6-4, 6-2, for his 12th singles victory.
- Duo clinched the Tribe triumph with his fourth-straight singles win. He won matching 6-1 sets to down Tommy Kim at No. 6. Duo ran his overall record to 8-2, including a perfect 3-0 in dual-match play.
- At No. 1 singles, Leblanc topped Sasha Panyan, 6-4, 6-4. He improved to 13-7 overall and 5-5 on the top line.
- Hansen rounded out the Tribe victory with a win at No. 5. He downed Jake Young, 6-4, 7-6 (6), for his 10th win of the year. He improved to 4-2 at the fifth spot.
