GREENVILLE, N.C. — Graduate student Yu Chen, junior Ine Stange and freshman Francesca Davis each posted singles wins as William & Mary notched a 4-3 road win over East Carolina on Sunday afternoon.
The Tribe (5-5) claimed the doubles point and then received straight-set singles wins from Chen, Stange and the clincher from Davis to upend the Pirates for the ninth-straight time.
How It Happened
- The Tribe recorded convincing 6-1 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to secure the initial point of the match.
- Chen and junior Emma Fernald rolled to a 6-1 victory over Ines Bachir and Alisha Hussain at No. 1. The Tribe tandem improved to 5-3 at the top spot.
- Davis and sophomore Yaelle Vaissaud bounced Kim Auerswald and Anne Lou, 6-1, for their second-straight win to clinch the doubles point. They improved to 5-2 in dual-match action.
- Chen quickly pushed the Tribe lead to 2-0 with a straight-sets win over Auerswald, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 2 position. It was her 10th win of the year and she moved to 4-1 on line two.
- After an ECU win at the top spot, W&M received wins at No. 4 and No. 6 to secure the team triumph.
- Stange notched her second-straight win, downing Isabella Ortiz, 6-2, 7-6, at No. 4. It was her eighth win of the year and she improved to 4-4 in dual-match action.
- Davis picked up her third clinching victory of the season at No. 6. The Green and Gold rookie topped Kexuan Zhou, 7-6, 7-6, for her 10th win of the year. Davis improved to 4-1 at No. 6 and 6-2 in dual-match play.
- ECU closed within 4-3 behind a pair of three-set wins at No. 3 and No. 5.
