WILLIAMSBURG — William & Mary women’s tennis closed out the weekend with a 4-0 win over St. John’s on Sunday afternoon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
W&M (3-1) captured the doubles point and received singles wins from junior Ine Stange and freshman Francesca Davis to top the Red Storm, which played with only five players.
How It Happened
- With St. John’s (3-1) playing with only five players, the Tribe needed just one victory in doubles to secure the initial point. At No. 2, Davis and sophomore Yaelle Vaissaud picked up their second win in as many days, topping Nicoline Santz-Lunde and Mouna Bouzgarrou, 6-2.
- The lead was 2-0 due to St. John’s playing with an incomplete lineup and no player at No. 6.
- Stange dropped just two games in pushing the Tribe lead to 3-0. She downed Alicia Gomez, 6-1, 6-1, for her sixth victory of the season and second at No. 3.
- For the second time this season, Davis clinched the Tribe victory with a win at No. 5. After taking the first set in a tiebreaker, the Tribe rookie dropped just one game in a 6-1 second set triumph over Noemi Babikova. Davis ran her season ledger to 8-6 with her fifth consecutive win.
