RICHMOND — William & Mary freshman Brian Walsh was named the CAA Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
In his first collegiate heptathlon, Walsh set a W&M freshman record, finishing third at the Brant Tolmsa Invitational with a score of 4,802 points. The mark was also the best in the CAA this season and ranked 38th nationally.
The Mendham, New Jersey, native won the long jump portion of the heptathlon with a distance of 7.03m, which ranks third in the CAA this season. His leap also ranks 11th in school history among long jumper performers. Walsh finished second in the high jump and 1,000m during the heptathlon as well.
The Tribe returns to action this weekend when it competes in the Patriot Games in Fairfax on Friday and Saturday.
