WILLIAMSBURG — The honors continued to roll in for William & Mary graduate student Lauren Curran on Wednesday as she was named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NHFCA) Offensive Player of the Week.
On Monday, Curran garnered the CAA Player of the Week honor for the second consecutive week. She has been on a tear of late, scoring seven goals in the last four matches. Last week, Curran tallied four goals in the Tribe’s wins over Queens University of Charlotte and Richmond.
The Media, Pa., native recorded the first hat trick for a W&M player since 2018 in the Tribe’s 7-0 win over the Royals on Friday. She scored twice in the opening period to jump start the Tribe offense, including what proved to be the game-winner in the second minute. On Sunday, Curran capped the Tribe’s 3-0 win at Richmond, scoring on the counter with a back-handed shot into the right side boards.
For the season, Curran leads the Tribe and ranks among the top five in the CAA in goals (third with 11), game-winning goals (third with 3), and points (fifth with 25). In league games, she was third in goals and points. Curran continued to move up in the Tribe record books, rankings seventh in game-winning goals (8), 11th in goals (31) and 15th in points (66). With her production last week, Curran increased her season goal total to 11 for the second-straight season.
Winners in four of their last five matches, Curran and the Tribe will be the No. 3 seed in the 2023 CAA Championship, Nov. 3-5, at Delaware. W&M faces No. 2 seed Drexel on Friday, Nov. 3, at 4 p.m. in the semifinals. Monmouth and Northeastern meet in the other semifinal with the winners squaring off on Sunday, Nov. 5, for the CAA title at 1 p.m.
