W&M Field Hockey Cruises to 4-1 win over Georgetown

(Tribe Athletics)

WILLIAMSBURG — Graduate student Audrey Domovich scored twice and graduate Lauren Curran and junior Sara Bartzen added a goal each as William & Mary cruised to a 4-1 win over Georgetown on Sunday afternoon at Busch Field.

It marked the second two-goal game of the season for Domovich and the fourth for the Tribe as a team. Bartzen scored her first collegiate goal in the second quarter, which proved to be the winner. Curran finished with a goal and an assist in the victory.

The Tribe (5-6) wasted little time getting on the board with Curran scoring the lid-lifter in the sixth minute. Senior Jayden Moon found the graduate forward in the middle of the area, and Curran wrapped a shot around into the left boards for her fourth goal of the season.

Georgetown’s Emma Van der Veen collected a deflection in the middle of the circle in the 12th minute and scored to knot the match at one.

The Green and Gold scored twice in the final four minutes of the opening half to seize control. Curran flipped a pass over the top of the Georgetown defense along the right end line. Bartzen got her stick to the ball first near the goal line and pushed it across with 3:17 left in the second quarter to give W&M a 2-1 lead.

Domovich’s first goal of the game off a penalty corner doubled the Tribe lead with just 18 seconds remaining in the opening half. Lonica McKinney picked up her third assist of the season, while Maddie McGaughey notched her fourth.

The Tribe earned a penalty stroke just 37 seconds into the second half. Domovich stepped to the spot and converted for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

W&M held a 13-9 advantage in shots, putting nine on goal. The Tribe also held a 4-3 cushion in penalty corners. Senior goalkeeper Maddie George finished with six saves in 55 minutes of action, while freshman Alexandra de Jesus played the final 5:39.
