RICHMOND — For the second time this season, William & Mary junior Pyper Friedman was named the CAA Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Friedman picked up her second two-goal game of the season in leading the Tribe to a 3-2 win at Towson in its league opener. The junior midfielder was named the league’s player of the week on Sept. 4 as well after scoring both W&M goals in a 2-1 upset of No. 12 Wake Forest on Sept. 1. Friedman is the sixth Tribe player in program history to win multiple CAA Player of the Week awards in the same season and the first since Emma MacLeod in 2017.
The Tribe improved to 9-2 under head coach Tess Ellis in CAA openers behind two goals from Friedman. She opened the scoring in the eighth minute, before extending the Tribe lead to 3-1 in the third quarter. Off a corner, Friedman collected and lifted a shot over the grounded Towson goalkeeper from in close on the left side for what proved to be the game-winner in the 42nd minute.
Friedman leads the Tribe with four goals on the season. She ranks sixth in the CAA in goals and 10th in points.
Friedman and the Tribe return to action on Friday, Sept. 22, when it hosts Northeastern at Busch Field. The contest is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on FloLive.
