CARY, N.C. — William & Mary women’s cross country placed five runners among the top 30 on the way to earning its second team runner-up finish of the season at the Adidas XC Challenge on Friday evening.
Competing at the WakeMed Soccer Park Cross Country Park, junior Arianna DeBoer and sophomore Catherine Garrison led the Tribe with top-15 performances. DeBoer topped the Green and Gold with a 12th-place showing at 17:38.6 over the 5K course.
Garrison, competing in her first cross country event since representing Team USA in the 2023 U20 Pan American Athletics Championships, placed 15th in a time of 17:39.7.
As a team, the Tribe finished second behind CAA foe Elon with 70 points compared to 32 for the Phoenix. W&M outdistanced a trio of CAA teams in Charleston (fifth at 111), Campbell (eighth at 250), and N.C. A&T (ninth at 263). Richmond was third with 81 points, while Coastal Carolina rounded out the top five with 125.
Sophomore Kelly Ann Sutterfield finished in the third spot on the team for the second race in a row. After placing 17th at the season-opening Spider Alumni Open, she took 25th on Friday in a time of 18:17.5. Junior Lucy Young was one spot behind Sutterfield in at time of 18:20. Senior Emily Sell rounded out the Tribe’s top five, placing 30th at 18:36.9.
