WILLIAMSBURG — William & Mary was well represented on the 2022 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State Football Teams, as the Tribe earned three major awards and 10 all-state honors.
Head Coach Mike London was chosen as the VaSID Coach of the Year, while sophomore linebacker John Pius (Defensive Player of the Year) and redshirt freshman cornerback Jalen Jones (Defensive Rookie of the Year) also garnered player of the year accolades.
Highlighting W&M’s six first-team honorees, which ranked tied for the most in the Commonwealth, were running back Bronson Yoder, left tackle Charles Grant, right tackle Colby Sorsdal, tight end Lachlan Pitts, linebacker John Pius and placekicker Ethan Chang.
The Tribe’s second-team selections included quarterback Darius Wilson, defensive end Nate Lynn, cornerback Jalen Jones and safety Tye Freeland.
W&M’s 10 all-state selection ranked second among all Division I teams.
The Tribe posted a remarkable 2022 campaign in which it equaled a school record for wins (11) and posted program records for regular season victories (10) and road triumphs (6). Additionally, the Tribe secured a share of the CAA title, earned a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Playoffs and advanced to the quarterfinals.
