WILLIAMSBURG — Virginia Capital Trail Foundation announced that the CapCenter Cap2Cap Cycling Event presented by Dominion Energy is returning to Virginia Capital Trail for its seventeenth year.

The cycling event will take place on both May 6 and May 7, and will also feature a post-ride party with a live DJ as well as local artisans. On May 6, the post-ride party will occur at Chickahominy Riverfront Park in Williamsburg, with the May 7 post-ride party taking place at Dorey Park in Henrico.

Cap2Cap features an open start format. This means the participants can start and finish anywhere on the Virginia Capital Trail. Additionally, the cycling event will be supported by rest stops and Support and Gear (S.A.G.) between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on both days of the event.

The distance options for cyclists include:

  • Cap Trail Century Ride: 100 Miles
  • Virginia Credit Union Half Century Ride: 50 Miles
  • Cap Trail Quarter Century Ride: 25 Miles
  • Sentara Family Fun Ride: 7 to 10-mile Miles

Event coordinators recommend that participants plan their rides by considering the locations of the Party Zone on the day that cycling is planned. The Party Zones are sponsored by James City County Parks & Recreation and Quirk Hotel (located at 201 W. Broad Street in Richmond). These are the only places during the event in which riders will be able to redeem lunch and drink tickets.

Included in the registration are a Cap2Cap t-shirt, an event bib, water bottle, drawstring bag, one raffle entry, a lunch and beverage ticket, and a 10 percent discount code to the online Trail store.

Registration fees for the event range from $35-$80, dependent upon the distance the cyclist signs up for. There will be a price increase on Feb. 7. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation.

For more information cyclists can check out the Virginia Capital Trail website and they can stay updated by following the event’s Facebook page.
