The Jamestown volleyball team moved to a perfect 4-0 in Bay Rivers District play Monday evening as the Eagles swept Poquoson in straight sets 25-18, 26-25, 25-21.

Jamestown was led by junior Maria Esch, who recorded 19 digs and a team-high 17 kills.

Emma Schriner also put in a strong performance with 12 kills, five blocks and four digs, and senior Madison Spence had a team-high 18 assists to go with nine digs.

The Eagles controlled the first set with ease, but the Islanders gave them a challenge during the second set as Jamestown struggled to run its offense.

“Our serve-receive broke down a little bit,” Jamestown Coach Tom Stephenson said. “We had some unforced errors and they moved their hitter all across the net. That hurt us a little. Credit to them, they put a lot of pressure on us in the second set.”

Jamestown was able to edge Poquoson in the second set 25-18 before closing out the match with a 25-21 third set win.

The Eagles (7-1) will continue their season on the road against New Kent at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
