After coaching the Bruton girls soccer team in 2014 and the Warhill girls soccer team in 2015, Jae Kim will be coaching his third team in as many years after accepting the Williamsburg Christian Academy boys soccer head coaching position.

Coaching the Lions to a 10-6 record and an appearance in the Conference 25 semifinal, Kim will be tasked with taking over a WCA boys team that will seek to replace seven starters.

Last year’s team reached the Metro Conference finals under Coach Tim Cristian.

“I’m very excited to work with the guys this year and hopefully lay the groundwork for the future success of the program through technical and tactical development,” said Kim, a graduate of Boston College.

Kim’s hiring was a relatively speedy process, meeting and interviewing with new WCA Athletic Director Chris Brown nearly two weeks ago and accepting the position that same day.

With a roster facing heavy turnover and a new head coach, Brown felt his program needed stability and was confident Kim was the man for the job.

While Kim will be tasked with coaching the boys team, he is also planning to undertake additional roles to help rejuvenate the soccer culture at WCA.

Resurrecting the girls soccer program at WCA, which does not currently field a team, and developing a middle school program are both goals Kim hopes to accomplish over the next couple years.

It’s an undertaking that will not come easy, but it is one Kim is excited about beginning.

“It’s exciting to start from the beginning,” he said. “I thought there were some opportunities there to develop the program on both sides, guys and girls. There’s going to be some growing pains, but hopefully both sides can adapt and in the next couple of years we can see what happens.”
