Pat Daly helped Warhill jump out to a 2-0 start on the season after pitching five scoreless innings with 77 pitches and driving in a run in the Lions’ 5-2 home win over York.
Daly got ahead of York (1-1) batters in the count, which forced the Falcons to swing at pitches outside the zone, creating easy putout opportunities for the Warhill defense.
The Lions had some early assistance from the York pitching staff, which hit two batters and walked another in the first inning. The pitching struggles helped the Lions bring two runners across in the bottom of the first inning.
A pair of walks in the bottom of the second inning set up Daly to drive in a run, giving Warhill a 3-0 advantage.
For York, the free base runners were made even more problematic by Warhill’s ability to steal bases — a skill they showcased in their season opener with six stolen bases against Smithfield. The Lions stole four against the Falcons.
Daly came out of the game for the sixth and seventh innings when York scored its two runs, but the Lions had the game soundly in control and cruised to the victory.
Warhill continues its season Tuesday when the Lions travel to play Bruton. York hits the road to take on Poquoson on Tuesday. Both games will be played at 4:30 p.m.

Hunter Watson Hits Walk-Off Single for Tabb in Eighth Inning
After seven-and-a-half innings of scoreless baseball, Tabb’s Hunter Watson decided enough was enough.
With a runner on third base in the bottom of the eighth inning, Watson hit a clutch grounder into left field to lift the Tigers to a 1-0 win against Smithfield at home Monday.
Pitcher Robbie Barrett was critical to Tabb’s success, throwing six scoreless innings and striking out nine batters in the process. Unfortunately for Barrett, the stellar pitching from Smithfield’s Jake Ryan prevented him from recording the win with his seven shutout innings.
Gray Goodrich continued the pitching excellence, entering the game in the seventh inning in relief of Barrett to pitch two scoreless innings and keep Tabb in the game.
After a pitching change by Smithfield in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Tigers managed to plate a run, securing the dramatic win.
Tabb (2-0) continues its season Tuesday, paying a visit to Lafayette at 4:30 p.m.
