Williamsburg Christian Academy continues to be a dominant powerhouse within the Metro Conference year in and year out, earning their sixth consecutive conference championship with a 52-35 win over Atlantic Shores on Saturday.
Imani Bryant, who was named Metro Conference Player of the Year after the game, helped win the tournament in style, logging a triple-double with 20 points, 14 rebounds and 11 blocks.
Williamsburg Christian Academy players Charnissa Chillers, Kaylee Boger and Daizhua Jones were all selected to the All-Metro team. Coach Donovan Bridgeforth garnered the Metro Conference Coach of the Year honor.
“This group here is really special,” Bridgeforth said of his team. “They’re super resilient. We only have seven players, and we just added one midway through the season. We played some really good teams with five or six players.”
Bridgeforth, who offered glowing praise for his team’s defense and toughness, believes Williamsburg Christian Academy has a dynasty that extends beyond the reaches of the Metro Conference.
“I think they’re a dynasty in the state,” Bridgeforth said. “Restricting it to the Metro Conference is selling it a bit short, I think. We’re looking for our sixth straight state tournament appearance.”
Williamsburg Christian Academy reached the finals by earning a 60-27 semifinal victory against Broadwater Academy at 10 a.m. Saturday. Bryant scored a game-high 31 points to go with 20 rebounds, while Chillers added 17 points.
Jamestown’s Season Ends After Loss to Smithfield
The Jamestown girls basketball team saw its postseason come to an end during a 61-34 loss to Smithfield in the quarterfinals of the Conference 19 tournament Saturday.
Jamiyah Johnson, who recorded 18 double-doubles in the regular season, was held in check by Smithfield with 10 points.
Lia Weisflog scored a team-high 12 points for Jamestown.
The No. 1 seed Grafton Clippers will host Smithfield in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Monday.

Walsingham Academy suffered a late 53-51 defeat during the quarterfinals of the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools tournament against Norfolk Academy on Saturday.
With 5.9 seconds left, Tyler Moore of Norfolk Academy sank the game-winning shot to end Walsingham’s postseason.
Stephanie Seaman paced Walsingham with 28 points, while Ashley Barnes chipped in 17.

Second Quarter Stifles HRA in TCIS Quarterfinals
The Hampton Roads Academy girls basketball team was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the TCIS tournament after a 51-36 defeat at the hands of Norfolk Christian.
The Navigators outscored Norfolk Christian 25-22 in the second half, but were unable to rebound from an 18-point halftime deficit. The Navigators failed to score in the second quarter.
Leigha Arcand led Hampton Roads Academy with 12 points.
