The Hampton Roads Academy boys and girls swim teams navigated their way to first-place finishes during the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools swim championships on Saturday.
The girls swimmers put on a dominant performance, winning every event except the 100 backstroke. The Navigators finished with 353 points — 47 points ahead of runner-ups Norfolk Academy.
Peyton Baldwin continued her outstanding season in the TCIS championships, winning four events. Baldwin claimed individual wins in the 200 freestyle and 100 fly, and participated in the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.
Nicole Piercy followed in Baldwin’s wake by winning four events as well. Piercy took victories in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle, as well as participating with Baldwin on the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
The boys swimmers took first place overall with 354 points, which was 19.5 points ahead of Norfolk Academy.
Joey Rento shared similar success to his female teammates Baldwin and Piercy by logging four wins. Rento controlled the freestyle events, winning the 500 freestyle, as well as serving as a member on the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams. Rento also claimed victory in the 100 backstroke.
Jared Norton won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, as well as placing first place on the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
