MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Greater Williamsburg Distance Running Club had seven athletes from varying age groups compete in the Junior Olympic Cross Country National Championship on Dec. 13.
The runners competing for the Greater Williamsburg Distance Running Club ranged in age from under 8 to 18.
The youngest runner from Williamsburg Distance Running Club, Isaac Lamprecht, who competed in the 8-and-under division, finished the 2,000-meter race in 8:47, which was good for 67th place.

Luke Tompkins competed in the 9-to-10 age division and finished the 3,000-meter race in 224th place with a time of 13:10. Glenn Glass competed in the 11-to-12 age group and finished the 3,000-meter run in 346th place.
Curt Ivanoff ran in the 15-to-16 age division, which makes the jump to the 5,000-meter distance, and finished in a time of 17:49 for 134th place.
Cameron Wojcieszak competed in the eldest age group, the 17-to-18 division, and finished in 71st place with a time of 17:25.
In the girls divisions, Nina Parziale ran in the 12-to-13 age group, which competes at the 3,000-meter distance, and finished 369th with a time of 13:41. Rachel Brotherton ran the 4,000-meter girls 13-to-14 race in a time of 17:31, which landed her in 314th place.
Each age group raced separately with the youngest racers going first, eventually culminating with the 17-to-18 age division. Each subsequent race happened 30 minutes after the previous one concluded.
Mark Tompkins, the founder of the club, was pleased with his group’s performance at the meet.
“Every kid that went down there, except two, had personal records,” Tompkins said. “It was the first year that I’ve done this club, so I’m just happy to have some kids come down. I took six kids this year, and my goal next year is to take 12. If I can keep doubling that number I would be happy.”
The Greater Williamsburg Distance Running Club has finished practices for the winter months but will resume group training in March.
The club is open to participants of all skill levels and looks to foster a love for running at the early stages of a child’s life. For more information about the club, visit the Greater Williamsburg Distance Running Club website.
