After leading Warhill’s field hockey team to its best season in school history, Coach Kristen Castano has been voted the 3A Colonial Rivers Conference 25 Player of the Year.
Warhill, which this year earned the program’s first conference championship and region tournament berths, is 11-5 on the season heading into Monday’s 3A East Region tournament opener at Chancellor.
Conference Player of the Year honors went to Poquoson’s Leslie Speight, whose efforts in goal helped the Islanders edge Warhill 1-0 in last week’s conference championship game.
In addition to Castano, forwards Kayla Cooke, Jessica Cooke and defender Casey Pongonis were named to the all-conference first team for Warhill.
York led the way with four players being named first team all-conference: forwards Bentley Zabicki and Jordyn Keller, midfielder Dominique Rainey and defender Taylor Salyers.
Midfielder Cailin Agnello and defender Allison Everson also received first-team honors for Lafayette.
Each of the aforementioned players also received all-academic honors as well for posting cumulative grade point averages of 3.0 or higher.
