Tabb cross-country coach George Coulter was doused by a cooler of water and honored by his team after reaching a career milestone Thursday.

Coulter, who has been coaching at Tabb High since the school first opened its doors in 1972, surpassed 300 wins with the Tigers’ boys team after going 2-1 at their Bay Rivers District home meet.

Despite losing 25-32 to Grafton, Coulter recorded his 300th and 301st wins after Tabb defeated New Kent 18-45 and Poquoson 21-43.

Coulter is closing in on 200 victories as coach of the girls team, which would give him nearly 500 total for his career.

His girls team won all three of their matchups Thursday after edging Grafton 25-32 to go along with 15-50 wins over Poquoson and New Kent.

During his 40-plus years leading the Tigers’ boys team, Coulter won one state title in 1992 after finishing as the Group AA runner-ups in 1991.

The Tigers’ boys and girls both will conclude the regular season Wednesday with a make-up tri meet against Bruton and host York.

The 4A Conference 19 meet is scheduled for Oct. 29 at Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield.
