Kent Klyman gave up one run on two hits and struck out 11 while Mikey Anerton collected four hits and drove in three runs to lead Williamsburg Post 39 in an 11-1 victory over Hampton Post 31 on Monday at Warhill High School.
Post 39 has defeated Post 31 three times in the past week.
Klyman, a 6-foot-5 lefty, struck out six of the first eight batters he faced after taking over in the second inning. Post 39 Coach Tom Richardson said Hampton hitters looked completely over matched as Klyman kept them off balance by effectively mixing his fastball, curveball and slider.
Anerton, who went 4-4 at the plate, continued to be Post 39’s most productive weapon offensively. He raised his team-best batting average to .474 and has racked up a team-high nine RBI, too, after driving in three more runs Monday.
Austin Carter’s RBI double that plated Thomas Richardson sparked a three-run frame in the bottom of the second inning for Post 39, which built a 7-0 lead through five.
Anerton and Blake Otey provided RBI base knocks during Williamsburg’s four-run frame in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early via mercy rule.
Post 39 returns to the field today to play Middlesex Post 241 in Deltaville.
