On the heels of back-to-back road shutout ties, Legacy 76, the Virginia Legacy’s new professional soccer team, will return home to play D.C. United U23 at CNU’s Captains Field at 3 p.m. Sunday.
D.C. United, which handed Legacy 76 a narrow 1-0 loss earlier this month, sits atop of the Mid-Atlantic Conference with an unbeaten record. Legacy 76 is coming off two impressive shutouts over ASA Charge and Virginia Beach FC, who rank second and third behind D.C. United in the conference standings.
Prior to the 3 p.m. kickoff, Legacy 76 will host a free youth clinic for boys and girls ages 4 to 14 beginning at 1 p.m. on the practice field located adjacent to the main stadium.
“For our players to have the opportunity to play against a team affiliated with a professional MLS Franchise is an invaluable experience, and the same goes for all the youth players and parents who can come watch them play,” said Bobby O’Brien, technical director and member of Legacy 76.
Admission to the game is free for any child age up to 18 years old who comes wearing a soccer jersey regardless of affiliation (club, travel, rec, etc.). Admission for adults is $5. One dollar of each ticket will go to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
The 3 p.m. game time will allow ample time for fans to return home and watch the United States Men’s National Team take on Portugal in the FIFA World Cup at 6 p.m., capping off what Legacy is calling a “Dream Day of Soccer.”
“Lots of great things happening Sunday, and we hope to see you there,” O’Brien added.
