A strong pitching performance from Arianna Reynolds and timely hitting helped Jamestown’s softball team defeat host Tabb 6-0 in a 4A Conference 19 play-in game Tuesday.
Reynolds allowed five hits over seven innings, while the offense was able to provide the run support needed as every player in the lineup was able to get on base at least once during the game.
“We’ve had some trouble stranding runners this year, but we were able to bunch some hits together today,” Jamestown Coach Jerome Varacallo said after the game.
Brooke Smith drove in Jamestown’s first run with a single to right that plated Emily Saintmire.
After Maddie Maharty scored in the fourth to put Jamestown ahead 2-0, the Eagles broke the game open with four runs on seven hits in the sixth as the entire batting order had an opportunity at the plate during the frame.
“We were really aggressive at the plate today,” Varacallo said. “The whole team was focused, and I hope this means we’re peaking at the right time.”
The Tigers stranded five runners on the day and were not able to establish much momentum during their last game of the season.
With the win, Jamestown advances to play No. 1 seeded Powhatan in the conference semifinals Thursday.

Bruton Blanks Maggie Walker in Conference 33 Semifinals
After winning three games against Bay Rivers District opponents during the regular season, Bruton’s softball team is showing it can hang with schools of its own size in Class 2A.
Behind Lydia Albrecht’s complete-game shutout, the Panthers blanked Maggie Walker 10-0 in Tuesday’s Conference 33 semifinals.
With the victory, Bruton, in addition to clinching a spot in next week’s 2A East Region tournament, advances to play the winner of No. 2 King William-No. 3 Windsor in Thursday’s conference championship.
Albrecht allowed six hits over seven innings and got more than enough run support from the Panthers’ lineup, which racked up 10 runs on 18 hits.
Lead-off specialist Dasha Hill went 4-5 and scored three runs while Hannah Hogan batted a perfect 4-4 with two RBI to lead the offense.
