In one of the few high school games not postponed due to rain, Walsingham’s girls soccer team played through the downpour and outlasted Norfolk Christian 2-1 in overtime Monday night.
The Trojans trailed 1-0 at halftime before Isabella Simmons provided the equalizer during the final 30 minutes on an assist from Christine McBeath.
McBeath would also factor into Walsingham’s game-winning goal after setting up Bridget Killilea for a goal in the bonus period.
“I was incredibly proud of the girls fight, tenacity and determination to prove they could get the win against a strong team,” Walsingham Coach Kat Dominguez said of the victory, which boosted the Trojans record to 4-7-1 on the season.

Grafton Girls Earn First BRD Victory
Taylor Bradshaw scored one goal and assisted on another to lead Grafton’s girls to their first Bay Rivers District victory of the season, 2-1 over York on Monday.
Meghan Barnard netted the other goal for the Clippers, who improved to 3-3-1 with the win.
Freshman Madison Van Dyke provided the lone goal for York, which dropped to 3-4-1 with the loss.

Wolons, Pescara Guide Jamestown Boys to Sixth Win in a Row
Jeff Wolons scored two goals and Noah Pescara notched two assists to lead Jamestown’s boys soccer team past Bruton 4-1 on Monday night.
Duncan McDevitt and Kevin Tripp also scored for the Eagles, who won their sixth game in a row to improve to 6-0-1 on the season.
Hunter Embry scored in the final 10 minutes to get the Panthers on the scoreboard.

Lafayette Boys End Two-Game Winless Drought

After its last two games ended with a tie and a loss, Lafayette’s boys soccer team, which began the season 5-0, returned to its winning ways by defeating Poquoson 4-0 on the road Monday night.
Sophomore Reeves Trott scored all four goals for the Rams (6-1-1) with two coming on assists from Denzel Speed.
HRA Girls Drop Third in a Row
Hampton Roads Academy’s girls soccer team dropped its third consecutive Tidewater Conference match Monday after losing 5-2 against Bishop Sullivan.
Bishop Sullivan jumped ahead 3-1 at intermission and limited the Navigators (3-6, 1-5 TCIS) to one goal each half, which were scored by Courtney Montgomery and Laura Killough and assisted by Catie Slater.

Monday’s Cancellations
All of Monday’s baseball and softball games, and most tennis matches, were canceled Monday night with makeup dates still in the works.
With many schedules already backed up and rain expected to continue until late in the week, athletic directors said scheduling could become a mess moving forward.
