Soccer Roundup: Bruton Boys Match Last Season’s Win Total with Victory Over York

A third of the way through the current season, and Bruton’s boys soccer team has already matched its win total from last year.

The Panthers knocked off York 2-1 on Thursday night for their second win of the season, which ties the number of victories Bruton posted last season and matches any team’s total under five-year coach Luke Taylor.

The two Bay Rivers District victories — over Poquoson and now York — are also the most by any team during Taylor’s tenure.

On Thursday, the Panthers jumped to a 1-0 lead at the half and tacked on one more goal during the final 40 minutes to earn a 2-1 victory.

The goals were scored by Hunter Embry and Miguel Martinez on assists from Elijah Rice and Chuckie Tenbusch. Chad Latulipe scored the lone goal on assist from Karsten Faciszewsi for York, which entered the game unbeaten on the season with five wins and three ties.

Warhill Girls Suffer First Loss

A sluggish start plagued Warhill’s girls soccer team as the Lions lost their first game of the season, 3-2 against Poquoson on Thursday.

Warhill coach Todd Williams said his team came out with “no heart or intensity” en route to falling behind 3-0 at the half.

The Lions came out strong in the second half and cut their deficit to one thanks to a pair of goals from standout Lindsey Williams, but “we had our chances, it just came too late,” Williams said.
