Track: Area Athletes Claim 12 Gold Medals at Panther PR Track and Field Festival

Athletes from Bruton, Warhill and York combined to win 12 events at Bruton High’s annual Panther PR Track and Field Festival on Saturday.

Warhill’s boys and girls both placed second among the 10 other competing schools to lead area teams. Host Panthers took fourth in girls and third in boys, while York finished sixth in girls and fifth in boys.

Bruton’s DaSha Hill and Warhill’s Alexus Wells were among the top standouts in the girls meet. Hill took third in the 100-meter dash and first in the long jump, and Wells won the 400-meter dash and finished second to Hill in the long jump.

Alexus’ sister, Atashia Wells, also won the 400 while teammate Miriam Buscher won the 800 to help the Lions accumulate 95 points to first-place Fauquier’s 134. Warhill’s girls also won both the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.

Other top local performers in the girls’ competition were Bruton’s Raven Finley Flowers, who finished second in the 300-meter hurdles, and York’s Gabby Patrick and Leah Gittens, who finished first and second, respectively, in the triple jump.

Warhill’s boys, who totaled 84.5 points to Fauquier’s 187, were led by junior standout Christopher Short, who ran a personal-best time of 1 minute, 56.11 seconds in the 800 to win the event with York’s Dawson Connell finishing third.

The Lions collected a handful of points in the 100 as well, with LaCroy Nixon, Taylor Lyons and Collin Bright placing second, third and fourth.

Like the girls, Warhill’s boys also won the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.

Third-place Bruton was led by Austin Gardner, who won the triple jump with a personal best leap of 39-02.00, and Mike Sangalang, who took first in the discus throw. Cameron Wojcieszak also placed second in the two mile for the Panthers.

Kyle Mastracci, won the high jump at five feet, 10 inches, was the top performer for York’s boys.
