Tribe Weekly Roundup: Baseball Dominates Weekend Series

The College of William & Mary’s baseball team improved to 14-5 on the season after slugging its way to a three-game sweep of visiting Iona College this weekend in Williamsburg.

The Tribe tuned up Iona’s pitching staff for 49 runs during the three-game stretch, beginning with a historic 31-1 victory Friday. The 31 runs were the second-highest in program history, while sophomore Charlie Gould set a program record with 11 RBI in the game.

The Green and Gold followed with a 16-4 victory Saturday and a 2-0 shutout Sunday. Tribe will return to the field Wednesday when it plays host to Longwood at Plumeri Park.

Tribe Women’s Gymnastics Defeats Temple on Senior Day

The William & Mary women’s gymnastics team closed out its regular season slate with a 193.375–189.525 victory against Temple on Senior Day at Kaplan Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Brittany Stover highlighted the Tribe’s individual performances by winning the all-around title (38.975), while freshman Olivia O’Connor earned the top score on bars (9.725). Click here for details.

Emily Stites Places Sixth at NCAA Championships for Tribe Women’s Track and Field

Competing at their first NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, the William and Mary women’s duo of Emily Stites and Elaina Balouris gave a pair of gutsy efforts and finished sixth and 14th, respectively, in the national 5,000 meter final.

Running against not only the 14 other elite runners but also the mile-high atmosphere in Albuquerque, N.M., the Tribe runners turned in respectable showings, Stites crossing the line in 16:27.99 and Balouris in 17:05.30. Click here for details.

Women’s Lacrosse

William & Mary’s women’s lacrosse team fell to 1-5 on the season after dropping a pair of contests this week.

The Tribe lost to No. 6-ranked Virginia 22-9 on Wednesday — their third Top 10 opponent to open the season — before being edged 11-10 by Virginia Tech on Saturday despite owning an advantage in most offensive categories.
