Despite losing its first game of the season last week in Charlottesville against Division I power St. Anne’s Belfield, Williamsburg Christian Academy’s girls basketball team remains the top ranked team in the second Virginia Independent Schools Division 2 state poll of the season, which was released Tuesday.
The Eagles (19-1, 6-0 Metro Conference) received 107 votes to the 97 received by second-place Miller School, who WCA plays Jan. 25.
The Eagles went 2-1 last week with victories over 3-point line Academy (54-40) and StoneBridge School (47-25).
Hampton Roads Academy (6-4), which went 1-1 last week, dropped to No. 5 in Division 2 while Walsingham (9-6) fell out of the top eight to No. 9.
On the boys side, Williamsburg Christian Academy (13-6, 6-1 Metro Conference) remains at No. 3 in Division 3 following a 2-1 week. Walsingham (9-4) fell from No. 5 to No. 6 despite winning both of its contests last week against Hampton Roads Cougars (70-40) and Wakefield School (71-54).
