Jamestown senior Kelly Esch and Warhill junior Alex Koon, who both led their teams to regional volleyball titles last week, have been named the Players of the Year in their respective regions.
Esch was named Player of the Year in 4A South after guiding the Eagles past district rival Grafton in the tournament championship last Thursday.
Koon, who led the Lions to the program’s first regional title by defeating crosstown nemesis Lafayette last weekend, was named Player of the Year in Region 3A East.
Jamestown’s Tom Stephenson and Warhill’s Greg Koon were also named 4A South and 3A East Region Coaches of the Year, respectively.
Esch was joined by teammates Monique St. Cyr, Victoria Bowen and younger sister Maria Esch, as well as Grafton’s Kendall Mahony and Hannah Williams on the All-4A South Region first team.
Koon was joined by teammate Colby Norris on the All-3A East Region first team along with Lafayette’s Kiersten Langerud and Abby Oren.
Grafton’s Christa Hall and Tabb’s Elizabeth Merrifield received second-team honors in Region 4A South while York’s Syndey Sumner, New Kent’s Gina Sledd and Poquoson’s Toni Anne Whitlow were recognized on Region 3A East second team.
Jamestown, Warhill, Grafton and Lafayette each advanced to the state tournament and will play in the semifinals Thursday at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Siegel Center in Richmond. Click here to view the tournament brackets.
