The Score: Monday’s Bay Rivers District Field Hockey Roundup

Lafayette earns second district win of the season, Grafton edges Poquoson and Bruton rolls past New Kent on the road.

Sydnie Swartwood scored the game-winner in the second half to break a 1-1 tie as Grafton edged Poquoson 2-1 on the road in what Clippers coach Brooke Feiner called one of her team’s best efforts of the season. Julia Larson gave Grafton a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the game before Poquoson knotted things 1-all just moments before halftime. The Clippers improved to 5-2 in the Bay Rivers District while Poquoson closed the regular season at 4-5 with the loss.

Bruton 5  New Kent 0

Carley Shannon and Kayla Copeman scored two goals apiece and Summer Zacharias scored one as Bruton cruised to a 5-0 road win at New Kent. The Panthers (13-1, 7-1 BRD) outshot the host Trojans 17-3 and earned a 19-3 advantage in corners.

Lafayette 1  Warhill 0

Mackenzie Wilson scored on a direct shot from the right side to break a scoreless tie early in the second half as Lafayette edged rival Warhill 1-0 at Wanner Stadium on Monday. It was the second district win of the season for the Rams, who improved to 2-6 in the Bay Rivers District (6-6 overall).
