Hard running and defense have been key to Lafayette’s 6-0 start this season.
The trend continued Friday when the Rams knocked off Poquoson 38-7 on the road.
Led by Jahlil Green, who managed 120 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 12 carries, the Rams rushed for 260 yards while the defense held Poquoson under 125 for the game.
“The defense played extremely well,” Lafayette coach Andy Linn said. “It was a total team effort; everyone did their job.”
Lafayette led 24-0 at the half and allowed their only touchdown in the third quarter after the Rams gambled on fourth-and-one and were stopped inside their own red zone.
Lafayette plays hosts to Smithfield on Friday for the Rams’ homecoming game.
Late Touchdown Lifts Grafton over York
The return of quarterback Robbie Hiser has provided the spark that Grafton’s football team sorely needed.
Hiser, with his arm and leg, led a last-minute scoring drive that ended in the Clippers only touchdown of the game as Grafton edged host York 10-7 at Bailey Field on Friday.
York (2-4, 2-3 BRD) took a 7-3 lead early in the fourth on a 10-yard touchdown run by Marcus Wakelyn.
Later in the period, Grafton (2-4, 1-4 BRD) took over following a York punt and drove to the goal line on two pass plays by Hiser, who dove across the goal line from one-yard out for the game-winning score with 1:29 left in regulation.
The Clippers sealed their first district win of the season by intercepting a pass from York quarterback Garrett Gatz on the ensuing possession.
