Former York High football standout Ben Edwards, now a senior at the University of Richmond, is looking to repeat the historic numbers he put up as a junior wide receiver last fall.
Through six games this season, Edwards, who hauled in the second-most passes in school history (80) last year, leads the Spiders with 48 receptions and 436 yards. His best performance of the season so far came in UR’s 38-31 loss against James Madison on Saturday, when Edwards matched a career-high with 13 catches for 83 yards and one touchdown.
As a first team all-Colonial Athletic Association wide receiver last year, Edwards started all 11 games and led the conference with 80 receptions and a team-high 852 yards.

At York, Edwards was a first team all-Bay Rivers District and all-Region I quarterback and kick returner while earning second-team distinction as a punter.
As a junior, he posted 950 rushing yards and 900 passing yards on offense and was a force on defense as well with 60 tackles.
A multi-sport standout, Edwards was also an all-district basketball player with averages of 14.5 points and five assists as a junior.
He suffered a leg injury during his senior year that sidelined him for the entire second half of the football season.
