For the second year in a row, local boys basketball standouts Brandon LaRose of Walsingham and Jake Duncan of Williamsburg Christian Academy have each been selected to the Virginia Independent Schools all-state first team.
LaRose earned repeated honors in Division 2, where he led the Trojans to their first state semifinal appearance in six seasons with averages of 16.3 points, 4 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 54 percent from the floor. LaRose will graduate in June as the school’s all-time winningest player with a career record of 110-40.
Duncan averaged team highs in points (24) and rebounds (7) per game this season en route to finishing with more than 2,000 points for his career.
Duncan played a key role in helping WCA capture the school’s first state championship as a junior, when he received his first nod on the Division 3 all-state first team, and will play on full scholarship and New Jersey Institute of Technology this winter.
Walsingham junior guard Billy Barnes, who averaged 10.3 points and was the team’s best three-point (43%) and free-throw (83%) shooter, was voted to the Division II all-state second team.
