Trevor Kelly’s walk-off three-run double with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning capped off a dramatic come-from-behind victory for York. Jimmy Angell picked up the win on the mound while Kelly (4 RBI), Brian Willis (2B, 2 runs, RBI) and Nick Hornung (2B, 2 RBI) chipped in with solid efforts at the plate for the Falcons, who improved to 2-0 in the Bay Rivers District.

Fresh off Thursday’s 15-2 rout on the road at Tabb, Jamestown managed just two runs on four hits – two of which came off the bat of Matt Perry – as the Eagles dropped their home opener and fell to 1-1 on the season.

Lafayette jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and cruised to a second-straight victory to start the season.
New Kent 5 Grafton 2
Coming off a 10-0 mercy rule victory over Tabb on Thursday, Grafton’s bats cooled off Friday as the Clippers fell 5-3 on the road at New Kent. Winning pitcher Matt Metheny and Co. held Grafton to just five hits and two runs as the Trojans broke open a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fifth inning.
Walsingham 7 Phoebus 3
Ryan Gallacio tossed five and one-thirds innings of no-hit ball with seven strikeouts to guide Walsingham to a 7-3 season-opening win over Phoebus. The Trojans (1-0), who were led by Ryan Keating (1-2 2B, 3 RBI, 3 SB) and Collan Cryts (2-4), erupted for six runs in the fourth inning to erase a 3-1 deficit.

Bruton 10 Lafayette 0 (5 Innings)
Bruton’s softball team opened its season with a 10-0 rout of visiting Lafayette Friday. Lydia Albrecht held the Rams to just two hits and zero runs over seven scoreless innings. Dasha Hill (2-3, 3 runs), Kelsey Sluss (3-3, RBI), Ashley Cicero (1-3, 3 RBI), Ashley Cordner (2-3, 2 RBI, run) and Erika Sluss (1-3, 2 RBI, run) highlighted a balanced offensive attack for the Panthers, who will play Smithfield Saturday for a makeup of Tuedsday’s opening-day rainout.

Smithfield sophomore pitching standout Sydney Gay held Jamestown to just two hits over seven innings to earn the complete-game shutout. Gay also struck out 11 batters in addition to going 3-3 at the plate with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.

Molly Rogerson struck out six batters over seven innings of work inside the pitching circle and also finished 2-3 at the plate with an RBI to lead York past Tabb 8-3. Maddie Rogerson added a 3-4 day at the plate that included a triple and 4 RBIs as the Falcons improved to 2-0 on the season. Kayla St. John (1-2) led the Tigers (1-1) with two runs scored.

Lafayette jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead on goals from David Lees (2), Jason Eckenrode, Anthony Vaccaro and Matt Beatty and cruised to its second straight win to open the season. Calvin Mitchell added two assists for the Rams (2-0).

The Tigers (3-0) have outscored opponents a combined 14-3 in three games to open the season.
