Game On: Former Area Pitching Standout Supplee Named Director of Baseball Operations at Wake Forest

Erik Supplee, a former area pitching standout who started for Jamestown High and American Legion Post 1776, has been named the new director of baseball operations at Wake Forest University.

After posting a 10-1 record with a 1.20 earned run average (ERA) his senior year at Jamestown in 2003 en route to earning all-Bay Rivers District and Region I honors, Supplee went on to pitch four seasons at Division I Marist College where he finished with an 18-10 career record and 3.79 ERA.

After college, Supplee began his coaching career at Millersville University (Pa.) in 2008 before making successful stops as pitching coach at Longwood University and Lynchburg College, where he served as both pitching coach and recruiting director last spring.

Last summer, Supplee served as head coach of the Wisconsin Woodchucks in the prestigious Northwood’s League and led the Woodchucks to a franchise record 43 wins while earning a national ranking as high as third.

Supplee will step into his new position at WFU of the baseball-rich Atlantic Coastal Conference immediately. He said coaching under esteemed Wake Forest head baseball coach Tom Walter, who received national media attention for donating a kidney to an incoming player in 2011, is among the many reasons he is excited about the new opportunity.

“This is definitely a significant jump for me,” Supplee said. “From the standpoint of the level of competition and the people I will be learning from, it’s real exciting. … We’re talking about probably the best conference (ACC) in regards to a combination of sports and academics.”
