The Score: Monday’s Boys & Girls Basketball Roundup

Grafton’s boys and girls each remain unbeaten in Bay Rivers to pad district lead, Duncan carries WCA boys to victory, and more.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Grafton 68  Smithfield 52

Elijah Moore erupted for a 37-point, 11-rebound double-double as first-place Grafton improved to 14-0 in the Bay Rivers after outlasting Smithfield on the road.

York 66  Poquoson 58

Poquoson’s Daniel Fisher (23 points) and Royce Bowden (20 points) led all scorers in the books, but York’s balanced effort prevailed as the Falcons topped visiting Poquoson 66-58 at home. Josh Smith (16 points), Jaylen Riggsbee (14 points), Brandon Harvell (11 points) and Eric Harp (11 points) all reached double figures for York (7-10, 5-8 BRD).

Williamsburg Christian Academy 65  Stonebridge Christian  38

Jake Duncan continued his outstanding senior season with a game-high 39 points and 8 rebounds to lead WCA past Stonebridge Christian.  Ryan Flanagan, Brian Williams and Mark Seaman each chipped in with 6 points and Keenan Gasway provided 7 assists and 3 steals for the Eagles.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Grafton 63  Smithfield 44

Olivia Wilson registered a 18-point, 13-rebound double-double, Emily Beyer netted 13 and Christa Hall finished with 11 as Grafton cruised past Smithfield at home. Savannah Baxley added a solid defensive effort with 10 rebounds and 5 steals for the Clippers, who boosted their Bay Rivers District record to 14-0 and can clinch (at least) a tie for the district title with a victory over Warhill on Tuesday.

Walsingam 65  Beach Homeschool  17

Sophomore Charnissa Chillers went off for a career-high 32 points and Ashley Barnes netted 21 as Walsingham breezed past Beach Homeschool Monday at home.
