William and Mary Head Football Coach Jimmye Laycock announced today that long-time offensive coordinator Zbig Kepa has resigned his position today, effective immediately, to pursue other career opportunities.
“Zbig Kepa has been a significant part of our success as a program for a long time,” stated Laycock, who will enter his 34th season on the William and Mary sidelines in 2013. “I have a great deal of respect for Zbig as both a coach and a person and have no doubts he will prove to be a valuable asset wherever he decides to continue his career.”
Kepa will leave Williamsburg having spent nearly three decades on the Williamsburg campus. He arrived in 1984 as a part-time assistant with the defensive staff, before switching over to the offensive side of the ball for the 1985 season, where he remained a fixture for the next 28 years. He spent the last 21 seasons as the Tribe offensive coordinator, where his charges averaged better than 350 yards of offense a game. Overall, Kepa has worked with six different quarterbacks who have earned a total of 13 all-league honors since the Tribe moved into conference play prior to the 1993 season. During the same span, Kepa has mentored 14 receivers to a total of 17 all-conference accolades.
The Tribe will begin an immediate national search for his replacement.
