Williamsburg Christian Academy’s girls basketball team has been ranked No. 2 in the first Division 2 state poll of the year, which was released this week by The Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association.
The Eagles won the Division 3 state championship last year for the first time in school history before bumping up to Division 2 this season.
Ranked No. 1 in Division 2 is perennial state power Miller School, which WCA (7-3, 3-0 Metro Conference) will face in a non-conference matchup January 25 on the road. That late-January stretch should prove to be a worthy test of how the lady Eagles will stack up come Division 2 tournament time, as WCA also plays No. 3 ranked Norfolk Christian the following day (Jan. 26th).
Hampton Roads Academy, which is off to a 4-1 start to the year, opens the season ranked No. 6 in the state. Walsingam, which has opened the season 7-0 under first-year coach Donovan Bridgeforth, also cracked the Top 10 at No. 9.
